2003 (November): one month of intense rabbinic studies at the Bat Kol Institute in Jerusalem. The courses focused on the interpretation of Torah texts in the rabbinic sources and on Jewish liturgy;
2005-2010: Writing of the doctoral dissertation at the Biblicum, under the direction of Prof. Joseph Sievers; the second reader was Prof. Jean Louis Ska. The thesis was discussed on the 28th of May, 2010. The topic of the dissertation was The Institution of the Hasmonean High Priesthood (in English). The main sources used in the dissertation were: 1 and 2 Maccabees, Ben Sira/Sirach, Priestly layers of the Pentateuch, early Dead Sea Scrolls, Flavius Josephus' works, Hellenistic non-Jewish sources and various archaeological evidences. I published an excerpt of my doctoral thesis, and on the 30th of June I received the title of Doctor in Sacred Scripture (SSD). Brill has already expressed its interest in publishing my whole dissertation in its Journal for the Study of Judaism Supplement Series, which I plan to revise by the spring of 2011.
Other activities:
2000-2001: teaching during the months of September-October of intensive courses on the historical books of the Old Testament at the Seminary of the Catholic University of Lviv (Ukraine).
2005 (March, 7-12) - The Fourth World Jewish Congress on the Interaction of Cultures organized at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I presented a paper on the "Messianic Ideas in Early Hasmonean Times: the Case of the Hasmonean High Priesthood".
Since 2005 - collaboration with the Journal for the Study of Judaism in the Persian, Hellenistic and Roman Period (published by Brill), where I publish twice a year (issues 2 and 4/5) reviews of articles. These articles are being selected from about thirty various journals published mostly in Italy, while others in Croatia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Spain.
The interest of my research and/or teaching fields covers the Pentateuch with focus on the cult and its priesthood, historical books of the OT, intertestamental and early literature of Judaism (including the Deuterocanonical/Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, the Dead Sea Scrolls), history of the Second Temple, Flavius Josephus, as well as interpretation of the Hebrew Bible in early Judaism. I am also particularly interested in the Jewish-Christian dialogue. I participated as free guest at tens of conferences organized by the Cardinal Bea Centre.

The Intercultural Mayan Seminar (SIM) in Chiapas, Mexico, is a regional center of the Baptist Seminary of Mexico (SBM), where Doris presently develops her ministry in theological education, mostly among the Mayan people.
Ricardo and Doris' work spanning 20 years in various countries and mission fields is characterized by theological education in intercultural dialogue among the bible, contextual realities and indigenous cultures. They seek the empowerment of their peers, and inclusiveness and openness to the diversity of wisdoms.
EDUCATION:
Doris' education includes a Th.D. (2006) in Historical and Biblical Studies from Boston Theological School at Boston University. Her dissertation revealed the hidden literary and sociological structures of the construction of collective identity as resistance frames in the prophetic discourse. She has an MAR in Evangelism and Cross Cultural Studies (1988) from Andover Newton Theological School, an MS in Microbiology and Medical Zoology (1981) from Medical School of the University of Puerto Rico and a Bachelor in Biology and Chemistry (1978).
WORKING EXPERIENCE:
Prof. García-Mayol presently works as missionary with International Ministries of the American Baptist Churches in theological education. Since 1998 to the present she has been the dean, academic coordinator and professor of Old Testament and Biblical History first at the Baptist Seminary of Mexico and the Theological Community of Mexico at Mexico D.F., and lately at the Mayan Seminary at Chiapas.
Doris designs and delivery courses in the areas of Bible (OT, Cultural Background, Prophets, History of Israel, Biblical Hebrew, Narrative Analysis and Biblical Exegesis), integrating the Social sciences, the Mayan culture, gender perspective and peace building. She has created educational materials for a diversity of educational levels (popular, literacy, graduate and postgraduate) and implemented comprehensive development programs for women's groups.
She also coordinates a Solidary economy program with Mayan Tseltal women at the highlands of Chiapas.
Since 2003, Prof. García-Mayol has given semester courses (Old Testament, Exegesis of Prophetic Discourse, Cultural Context of the OT, and Missions & Theology of Missions) at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico (SEPR) in its M. Div Program.
From 1991 to 1997 in Limón, Costa Rica she collaborated first in the design, planning and implementation of the Caribbean Centre for Theology and later creating and delivering courses at master, bachelor, diploma and certificate level. She also participated in the support and promotion of development projects for a marginalized community in Sixaola, Costa Rica.
During 1981 to 1989 she developed her initial passion on microbiology as research assistant of biochemistry at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, coordinating and publishing her research in regulation of iron synthesis. Before that she taught microbiology and related areas as professor of microbiology at the University of Puerto Rico. She coordinated research projects, publishing and establishing the immunofluorescence monoclonal technique to identify Herpes Simplex 1 &2 in high risk populations as Research Supervisor of the Center for Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Rio Piedras, PR.
SPEAKING AND REPRESENTATION:
Since 1982, Prof. Garcia-Mayol participated as a speaker at many events first in the United States in the areas of microbiology; and later on in Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States, in a variety of subjects: missions, interculturality, social identities and the bible, meaning and purpose of international collaboration, etc.
She has also participated in various academic events in Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Cuba on a variety of subject: Primer Encuentro Nacional de Reflexión Bíblico-Teológica: La visión y misión de las mujeres evangélicas en México al inicio del tercer Milenio; Comentario a Luis Rivera Pagan: Diáspora, símbolos, y tradición profética; The future of Theological Education in Latin America; Present Ethical Challenges and Prophetic Discourse; La Misión: Claves desde Jesús, los Profetas y Víctor Mercado at 1er Simposio Misionológico en Memoria al Rvdo. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Leonard Greenspoon holds the Klutznick Chair in Jewish Civilization at Creighton University. On the Creighton faculty since 1995, Greenspoon is also Professor of Classical & Near Eastern Studies and of Theology.
From his days at a graduate student at Harvard University (from which he received his Ph.D., in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations), Greenspoon has been interested in translations of the Bible. Many of his publications-he has edited or authored fifteen and fifty books, written more than a hundred articles and book chapters, and penned almost 500 book reviews-deal with aspects of this fascinating subject. He has written on topics ranging from the earliest translation of the Bible, the Septuagint, to versions of the Bible composed as recently as last year. He is recognized internationally as an expert on the history of Jewish Bible translations, and he has been involved as editor or consultant in two Bible translation projects.
In his research and writing, Greenspoon is especially interested in the way Bible translators-acting as individuals or, more often, as members of a committee-reflect the historical, social, cultural, political, as well as religious environments in which they work. He also focuses on how specific Bible translations influence the communities for which they are intended, and how later translators and commentators make use of earlier versions.
