SBL Committees

Distinguished biblical scholars lead the Society. Fourteen members are elected to serve on its governing board, the Council, which determines general policies and program initiatives and appoints committees, editors, and representatives to assist in fulfilling the mission and in conducting regular business. Election to Council and appointment to a committee is an honor, and the dedicated service of volunteers contributes to the success of the Society.

In addition to Council, members serve hundreds of other positions—on committees, task forces, boards, and program units. Nominations to all these positions are accepted throughout the year. To submit a nomination, please follow the link to these instructions.
